Water, Color & Flow
Non-representational
Inner Mystical Landscapes
As a young creative, I didn’t have much of an appreciation for abstract contemporary art. But as I have evolved as a person and an artist, I began to open up to the flow of uncertainty in life and work and recently began dabbling in intuitive abstracts in watercolor painting. The comfort of representational art gave way to something new, freeing, and exciting.
When I begin an abstract painting, I have no idea how it will develop. It’s taken me a long time to trust the “not knowing,” and as jazz musicians trust in the next riff to lead them to a place in the harmonic unconscious that wants to express itself, I have learned to trust the direction the last mark on my 300 lb Arches paper is leading me towards next. And that riff, like a wave, is just one wave in a vast ocean. There are no boundaries, no focus to represent anything but a feeling or a mystical current.
So, I work until the puzzle is arranged in such a way that an Inner Landscape is established. It’s not possible for me to explain my paintings as I don’t really understand them myself. I try to make areas beautiful and pleasant to look at and aim to interpret a personal energetic flow. In all its glory, Watercolor, with gorgeous pigment, jewel tones, and mystical waters, makes the experience a joyful one to explore, create, and get lost in.
